That's why last year, my family started wrapping things in brown paper or newspaper to make a difference. We made it nicer and brighter by decorating it with colourful pens (but don't stick stickers on it because that wouldn't make a difference to the environment) or wrapping a ribbon -or string- around it because you can always wear a ribbon in your hair or even pass it on and wrap another present with it! Or you can leave it plain, because sometimes it looks rather nice on it's own.
Facts on wrapping paper:
- It is said that 227000 miles of wrapping paper are used every year.
- Wrapping paper sometimes contains non-paper things like coloured shapes, glitter, plastics and this paper is often dyed and laminated, making it non-recyclable.
- 108,000,000 rolls of wrapping paper will be thrown away in Britain.
Thank you for reading this post, and come back next Sunday to read about cards!

Wow great ideas, Violet. Thank you for making me think of more creative and responsible ways to wrap this year. Looking forward to your next post!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading my first tip! I didn't mention that you could just unwrap the present really carefully and re-use the paper again๐. I also can't wait to publish my next post.....
DeleteBrilliant post Violet!
ReplyDeleteI do that too, and use pretty stamps and ink to decorate my presents. Hecky draws pictures on his. This year I am also wrapping some (smaller) presents in cloth. They look like little Christmas puddings. ๐
I wish you lots of joy in writing this blog and look forward to your next post!
Love,
Flo x
P.S - I would like to come and visit you and your family in the spring - I am very excited about meeting Felix. I saw a picture of you and him having a cuddle - ๐.

DeleteHi Vi
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder... we started this last year after seeing your presents and now we do all our presents in newspaper. If I'm lucky I can find some pics of tasty treats from the Waitrose newspaper!! I am not sure what all Euan's friends think but that gets us talking and sharing the idea :-D
PS Alec has been making envelopes from your picture below.... shame he wasn't doing his homework... hee hee ;-)
ReplyDeleteHello! Yes, I remember last year and it's sooooo nice to hear you're wrapping all your presents in newspaper๐.
ReplyDeleteSorry I distracted Alec from his homework... But, did they turn out well? ๐คฃ Hope to see you soon!❤
